Hua Xia Multiculture Society (also known as HXMS) has as a primary mission coordinating and implementing comprehensive educational, cultural and social programs designed to promote intercultural dialogue, awareness and to respect for diversity.

Through advocacy, cultural programs and education, HXMS creates opportunities for our clients and members to expand their cultural knowledge and appreciation. HXMS utilizes its programs and support systems to provide an optimum developmental environment where all members may develop to the highest level of their potential within the intellectually and culturally vibrant community.

Our goal is to help citizens and Permanent residences to:

  • Facilitate social integration and community participation
  • Have access to community resources
  • Cultivate the spirit of mutual help and teamwork
  • Establish cross-cultural links and bridge language and cultural barriers
  • Enhance the quality of life in Canada

Our society is actively involved in activities and events in the Chinese community as well as in larger society to promote the understanding of Chinese heritage and culture, and to contribute to the cultural diversity in the Great Vancouver and Lower mainland.

Hua Xia Mandarin Sponsorship Program

In partnership with established Universal Chinese School (环球中文学校) in 2013, the same year we launched the renewed “Hua Xia Mandarin Program” (华夏普通话课程), and immediately opened a new campus in Langley. It soon expanded from less than 100 students to 200 above.

At present, there are schools in the Fraser Heights of North Surrey (16060 108 Ave, Surrey, BC V4N 1M1), White Rock in South Surrey (1785 148 St, Surrey, BC V4A 4M6), Fleetwood Surrey (16065 88 Ave, Surrey, BC V4N 1G3), Langley City (20686 84 Ave, Langley City, BC V2Y 2B5 and 7755 202a St, Langley City, BC V2Y 1W4) and North West Vancouver (1860 Sutherland Ave, North Vancouver, BC V7L 4C2), with a total of six campuses and more than 400 students.

In addition, our online virtual classrooms are growing everywhere in British Columbia, our members and volunteers provide exceptional education services to all residents in BC and beyond.

COVID-19 Updates:

The BC government has suspended all in-class kindergarten through Grade 12 instruction indefinitely to help contain the spread of COVID-19. We have begun planning and implementating continuation of learning initiatives (via online classes and will provide updates incl. new courses as they become available. Registration for Surrey Schools’ Summer Learning full credit academic courses for Grade 10-12 students is now open incl. remedial courses for Grades 8, 9 and 10

These summer courses will be delivered remotely, and offerings or delivery models may change dependent upon the COVID-19 situation within our province and/or direction from the Ministry of Education or the Ministry of Health.

Mandarin Chinese Language program – Online Courses Student Recruiting

New course “Fun Pinyin 趣味拼音”

A newly developed online course known as “Fun Pinyin (趣味拼音)” will be your choice for additional effects and make significant change in your mandarin pronunciation. The course is not substitute to any offline classroom but an important area especially of the language for who do not speak mandarin at home on daily basis. “Pronunciation – Pinyin” is an integral component of overcall Mandarin listening and speaking skills in addition to reading and writing.

Unlike our other regular traditional and mix online/offline classes, The “Fun Pinyin (趣味拼音)” course will only last 6 weeks only.

“Fun Pinyin (趣味拼音)” starts 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm on every Thursday from April 30 to June 4, 2020.

There is a current outbreak of Coronavirus (COVID-19) disease. This outbreak has been classified as a global pandemic. HXMS and UAA’s Mandarin courses online will remain as the replacement to our all schools and campus until it has passed. 目前冠状病毒(COVID-19)疫情下,华夏多元文化协会和环球中文学校的网络中文(普通话)课程已成为我们学校各校区的主要教学渠道。


Universal Chinese School (UCS) has been in operation for nearly 30 years since September 1991. It is the earliest and the largest Chinese school in the Fraser Valley. The school used to have a branch at VCC (Vancouver Community College). The former principal retired in 2013. The school was taken over by the Universal Advanced Academy (UAA). A series of new measures were put in place to expand its operation by strengthen management and improve the quality of teaching. In partnership with the Society, the same year launched the “Hua Xia Mandarin Program”, and immediately opened a new campus in Langley.

We are proud to provide educational services not only Mandarin and English Programs but also After-school Math Program to the communities in the region and, more importantly, they have had a substantial impact on the communities in the region.

The school also organizes various activities regularly, Spring Festival party, speech contest, calligraphy study, presentation skill training, composition contest. UCS often has the school’s excellent composition published in the newspaper. At the end of each semester, the school prints commemorative newsletter for students with lists and photographs of the winning students. In the summer, we also often sends selected students over the age of 12 to participate in summer camps in China.

Both Hua Xia Multiculture Society and Universal Chinese School actively involve in activities and events in the Chinese community as well as in larger society. It is our duty to promote the understanding of Chinese heritage and culture, and to contribute to the cultural diversity in the Great Vancouver and Lower Mainland in British Columbia, Canada.

We offer Mandarin Courses Online and Offline integrated learning experience

UAA/UCS offers Mandarin courses from K,level 1 to 12 (ages 5 to adult). All students will be assessed and assigned to appropriate classes. The School also offers challenge examination tutorials, PIN YIN and Adult Conversation classes. Staffing with experienced and qualified teachers, we choose textbooks written specifically for students use Chinese as a second language in accordance to the British Columbia School Board curriculum. We teach simplified Chinese Characters and use Traditional Chinese Characters for reference purposes only.

There are six (6) campuses in total. The main schools are in Surrey and Langley open every Saturday. The other four (4) campuses are located in Langley City, Fraser Heights, White Rock/South Surrey, and North Vancouver/West Vancouver. They open every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

With modem society transformation of 21th century, we recognize the needs of online learning experience for many young generations. We provide many more locations in addition to our established school campuses in British Columbia incl. Great Vancouver and Lower Mainland to extends our students mixed online with in-person learning opportunity. Our online courses are strived to meet our students demand.
